Art on the Live Playa

The ARTery

The ARTery is the headquarters of the Burning Man Art Department on playa, located at 6:30 and Esplanade. It functions as a check-in center for artists, as well as a hub for information about art.

The mission of the Burning Man Art Department is to serve and defend artistic expression at Burning Man. The goal of the ARTery as an artist resource center is to facilitate the placement and installation of art on the playa during the Burning Man event.

This directory provides a listing of the Artwork presented on the Playa as well as a description of each piece

Art Spanning Real and Virtual Worlds

Within The Window (The Window) is a history-making interactive installation to be created for Burning Man 2022 where participants on playa and in the BRCvr virtual Burning Man experience interact with each other. The Window, created with a video screen (or projection) is framed by interactive repurposed technology components. The frame features fun and thoughtful real-time “push button” interactions. Within The Window produces meaningful social human interactions that are uniquely possible through the use of cutting edge technology.  Participants can interact with those across the VR environment who have joined from virtual reality. They appear to VR participants via video share. BRCvr participants appear to playa participants as their animated avatars on the screen. Together, participants on both sides push buttons that trigger special effects that manifest in both worlds.
